The Centre of Research Excellence (CRE) to Reduce Inequality in Heart Disease focuses on improving the heart health and outcomes of groups and communities i.e. Regional Australians, Indigenous Australians and International Health

Professor David Thompson

Professor David Thompson is Professor of Nursing and Director of the Centre for the Heart and Mind in the Mary MacKillop Institute of Health Research at the Australian Catholic University.

He holds degrees in nursing, psychology, anthropology, policy and management as well as Fellowships with the European Society of Cardiology, the American Academy of Nursing, the Royal College of Nursing of the United Kingdom and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.

Consistent with the focus of the CRE to Reduce Inequality in Heart Disease, Professor Thompson’s research efforts have focused on: a) describing the psychosocial impact of cardiovascular disease; and b) developing practical and affordable models of prevention and care in response.

Professor Thompson’s portfolio of health services research, therefore, encompasses population cohort studies, multicentre randomised controlled trials and systematic reviews and meta-anlyses of multidisciplinary interventions.

Professor Thompson is a Chief Investigator of the CRE to Reduce Inequality of Heart Disease. He is Chair the Operational Research Committee and works closely with the other Investigators to meet the CRE’s aims and objectives, support the early-to-mid career researchers being funded via the CRE and successfully undertake its planned portfolio of research.
